When To Prune Apple Trees?

Pruning the apple tree is extremely important, if you want it to have a strong framework and want it to yield a lot of fruits. Although the best time to do it is around October and December, you can also prune it during the summer season. I will explain the effects of summer and winter pruning below.

So, when to prune apple trees?

Apple

Summer season is the period, when they produce fruits. So, if you trim the tree around this period, it will transfer most of the tree's dynamisms into enhancing the current fruit crop. This will help you to get more apples from your tree.

When To Prune Apple Trees?

Winter pruning involves kind of cleaning process. Basically, after the fruiting season, you simply get rid of the branches that grow awkwardly, for instance branches that grow crisscross. Also, you must get rid of the branches that are drying. So, winter pruning helps you to prepare your tree for the next fruiting season with healthier branches.

Quick Steps To Pruning Your Apple Tree

First, you need to remove suckers. These are the small branches that grow at the base of you tree trunk. By removing the suckers, you will allow your tree to grow in good shape.

Second, you need to get rid of any branches that are dry or diseased. The diseased or dry branches can spread to whole tree, if they are not removed.

Third, cut off the crossed branches. By getting rid of the crossed branches, you will give your tree a vase shape and this will help the air circulation between branches. The air circulation will prevent the tree to catch airborne diseases.

Type 2 Diabetes - Are Apples Really the Best Fruit For Diabetics?

People with type 2 diabetes always want to know if fruit is OK for diabetics to eat. Unfortunately, newly diagnosed type 2 diabetics need to absorb so much information that this simple question becomes impossible for them to answer. On top of that, there is a lot of information on the internet about fruit and diabetes that's downright false.

Fortunately, there are quite a few types of fruits that have excellent benefits for people with type 2 diabetes. Among them are citrus fruits, such as oranges and grapefruits, all type of berries... strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, cherries, and apples. Even bananas can fall into the good fruit category, although they tend to have a little more sugar than some fruits.

Apples

Apples: The Perfect Fruit For Diabetics?

Type 2 Diabetes - Are Apples Really the Best Fruit For Diabetics?

As long as you monitor your blood sugar levels and don't overdo it with too many servings of fruit, you can enjoy nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber in lots of fruits. Let's take a look at the apple as it might just be the the perfect fruit for diabetics.

Apples are so good for diabetics that research done on people with pre-diabetes found that apples could even keep people from developing diabetes. In the twenty-four hours after "apple consumption", pre-diabetes symptoms were fewer. It seems that an apple a day can really be as good at keeping the doctor away as the old saying says it is.

Apples Are Loaded With Fiber:

Apples are an excellent source of dietary fiber. Eating one medium-size apple has the same effect as eating a bowl of bran cereal. In fact, just one apple contains 20% of the daily recommendation for fiber. Because an apple has so much fiber, it is good at controlling blood sugars by releasing them more slowly into the blood. This can give you energy over the long-term and not the quick spike of glucose given by a lot of other fruits and juices.

Studies have shown that apples can reduce the risk of some cancers and heart disease, and they can reduce inflammation in those people who have joint diseases. Apples are excellent for digestive health and have a positive effect on your colon. In addition, one of the brightest research findings is that apples are full of antioxidants.

Apples contain antioxidants:

Antioxidants get rid of free radicals... substances which cause cell damage and lead to elevated blood sugar levels. The antioxidants in apples are known as phytochemicals, and include an extra-special flavonoid called quercetin. Quercetin has been shown to prevent cancer and it's benefits for many other diseases are now being researched. It has promising-looking benefits for Parkinson's Disease and Alzheimer's Disease. If you ate one apple (with skin), approximately 100 grams, you would receive equal antioxidant benefits to taking 1500 grams of vitamin C.

Not only do they cut your risk of acquiring type 2 diabetes, apples help get rid of the plaque which builds up in your blood vessels causing blockages and heart disease.

Maybe the expression "an apple a day keeps the doctor away" should be changed to "two apples a day will keep type 2 diabetes away".

Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey Remedy

The health benefits of the apple cider vinegar and honey drink are widely known. This recipe has traditionally been used as an at-home self remedy for many ailments, and even an anti-aging elixir. Many people have smartly made use of its cleansing and disinfecting properties to self-detoxify their body. It is seen as a powerful cleansing agent and natural healing elixir with naturally occurring antibiotic and antiseptic that fights germs and bacteria.

Alkaline-Forming Diet

Apple

So, how does this vinegar and honey remedy actually work? A person's bloodstream tends toward becoming acidic with our modern diet of fats, starches and processed foods, (e.g fast foods, meats, peanuts, seafoods, alcohol and coffee)and if your body is acidic, disease can flourish; if it is alkaline, it is in balance and can fight off germs and ailments such as bladder and kidney conditions, osteoporosis, brittle bones, joint pains, aching muscles, low energy and chronic fatigue, and slow digestion. Raw fruits, leafy green vegetables, legumes, and tea are examples of alkaline forming foods. Interestingly and ironically, a food's acid or alkaline-forming tendency in the body has nothing to do with the actual pH of the food itself. For instance, lemons and limes are very acidic, however the end-products they produce after digestion and assimilation are very alkaline so lemons and limes are alkaline-forming in the body. Likewise, meat will test alkaline before digestion but it leaves very acidic residue in the body so, like nearly all animal products, meat is very acid-forming. It is important to know that stomach acid or the pH of the stomach is an entirely different matter from the pH of the body's fluids and tissues. The body has an acid-alkaline (or acid-base) ratio called the pH which is a balance between positively charges ions (acid-forming) and negatively charged ions (alkaline-forming). When this balance is compromised many problems can occur. The body is forced to borrow minerals-including calcium, sodium, potassium and magnesium from vital organs and bones to neutralize the acid and safely remove it from the body. And severe damage can be done to the body due to high acidity. Ideally, for most people, the ideal diet is 75 percent alkalizing and 25 percent acidifying foods by volume. Allergic reactions and other forms of stress also tend to produce excessive acids in the body.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey Remedy

The alkalinity of apple cider vinegar can correct excess acidity in our system and help prevent and fight infection. Honey added to the vinegar naturally makes the mixture more drinkable for people. And the good news is that unprocessed raw honey has been classfified as an alkaline-forming food. (Processed honey is only little acidifying and artificial sweetener is very acidifying). When you first drink the apple cider vinegar formula, it might taste horrible to you, but as your body becomes less acidic and more alkaline, it would begin to taste good. The ailments that could be cured by this apple cider vinegar and honey treatment include:

1. Premature aging

2. Obesity

3. Food poisoning

4. Heat exhaustion

5. Heartburn

6. Brittle nails

7. Bad breath

8. Arthritis

9. High blood pressure

10. High cholesterol level

Try this healthy and refreshing vinegar and honey drink! Essentially, to prepare:

* Mix a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and a tablespoon of raw honey. (Apple cider vinegar is actually made from fresh, organic, crushed apples that are allowed to mature naturally in wooden barrels, but you can get it easily from the grocery shops or supermarkets.)

* Dissolve in a glass of chilled water.

* Take it twice daily.

Note: For this vinegar and honey remedy, do not get commercial distilled vinegars as they do not contain the same health values of organic, raw apple cider vinegar. The powerful enzymes and minerals like potassium, phosphorus, sodium, magnesium, sulphur, iron copper, fluorine, silicon, pectin and natural malic and tartaric acids, which are important in fighting body toxins and inhibiting bacteria growth, are all destroyed during the distilling process.

How to Grow Apples

The first thing you need to grow apples is a long-term commitment. Growing apples takes considerable time and quite a bit of work. Still, if one of your fondest childhood memories is the apple tree in your backyard, producing your own apples is a satisfying part of gardening.

Site Selection

Apples

Before you begin growing apples, make sure you have room for at least two trees. Typically, two apple trees bear enough fruit to keep a family of four in good supply. Apple trees need to grow in full sun, which means they need at least six hours of sunlight each day. Even dwarf varieties need to be spaced at least 8-feet apart. It is also essential to provide your trees with good drainage. Although apple trees tolerate a variety of soil types, they prefer sandy loam to sandy clay loam with a pH of about 6.5.

How to Grow Apples

Choosing cultivars

You probably wonder why you need two trees to grow apples. Apple trees are self-incompatible. Simply put, this means that even the most industrious bee (bees are the chief pollinators of apple trees) can't persuade two trees of the same variety to bear fruit. So, to grow apples you usually need two trees of different varieties. Some nurseries offer apple trees that have two or more compatible cultivars grafted on the same tree; but to be on the safe side (and to get enough apples for a family of four) you still need two trees. A flowering crab will also pollinate your fruit-bearing apple tree and is useful in pest deterrence, as you'll see later in this article.

Although apples trees grow from seed, it takes several years and a significant amount of nurturing to produce an apple harvest from seed. The easiest way to begin growing apples is to purchase either bare root or container grown trees from your favorite garden nursery.

In addition to fruit size, taste, and color, your nursery professional can recommend trees that are cold hardy for your area, bloom at approximately the same time, are pollination compatible, and are disease resistant. You'll find that purchasing disease resistant cultivars makes a generous cut in your apple tree maintenance time!

When selecting trees from a catalog or Internet site, you need to make these comparisons between cultivars. Look for catalogs and sites that list compatible cultivars for you.

How high your tree grows also depends on the type of tree you plant. Dwarf varieties reach 8 to 10-feet in height, semi-dwarf trees grow 10 to 15-feet tall, and standard trees may reach heights of 20-feet or more.

Although their yield is less, dwarf and semi-dwarf rootstock typically bears the same size fruit as standard size trees and is overall easier to manage.

Constipation Remedy Using Apples and Other Juices

Here are two constipation remedies that you can use for a mild case of constipation and for a chronic case of constipation.

Apple and Pear Juice

Apples

If you have a mild case of constipation, you can use this remedy to get results.

Constipation Remedy Using Apples and Other Juices

Prepare equal amounts of fresh apple and pear juice. Drink this combination when you first wake up and one hour before bedtime.

Juice the pears that are slightly hard. If the pear is ripe, it is best to blend it whole with apple juice to create a thick drink. Using the whole pear will give you additional fiber. Just remove the seeds but do not peel the organic type.

Pears have minerals, vitamins, and chemicals that help to clean out your colon, kidney and to regenerate your blood cells.

Apple Juice and Prune Juice

Here's a constipation remedy that you can use if you have chronic constipation. In addition to just drinking apple juice, you can accelerate your peristaltic action with prune juice.

Here's how to do it.

If you have a juicer you can make fresh apple juice and drink 3-4 glasses a day. You can also drink store-bought apple juice but try to get fresh squeezed and not the type that has been flash pasteurized or pasteurized. If you can find fresh apple juice then use flash pasteurized.

Buy your juice in glass containers if possible.

Plastic containers are processed using solvents that stay in the container walls and gradually outgas into the apple juice. This out gassing is more severe when plastic containers are stored in hot places.

To speed up the laxative effects of apple juice, take the following combination first thing in the morning before you have breakfast,

Drink 2-3 cups of prune juice.
After ½ hour, drink one cup of apple juice
Then, 1-hour later drink another cup of apple juice.

I usually buy my prune juice in a bottle and fresh squeeze my apple juice.

Be prepared to head for the bathroom after you drink your prune juice and your first glass of apple juice. You may need to head to the bathroom soon after you drink prune juice, everyone is different. I have used this combination and have recommended it to my clients and have had good results.

Prune juice by itself is good for constipation. It is a safe, gentle and an effective laxative. Drink a cup in the morning and a cup in the evening. Prune juice contain the substance dihydrophenylisatin, which is responsible for the laxative action. Prunes are also high in iron and are a great supplement if you are anemic or low on iron.

If you add prune juice to your diet, do not drink as much of it as you would when you have constipation. Drink ½ glass in the morning and perhaps ½ glass in the evening.

IBS Treatment - What Have Bananas And Apples Got To Do With IBS?

When someone talks about bananas, one thing comes to mind - energy food. The reason for this is because we often see the tri-athletes gorging on this before and during their race events.

Well, it is a known fact that it contains three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose - combined with fiber. The sugars give us the instant and sustainable energy. Research has shown that just two bananas can sustain one for a vigorous 90-minute workout. But for an IBS sufferer, it is the insoluble fiber that we are interested in. The abundance of insoluble fibers helps in relieving constipation without the need for laxatives. So keep a banana or two in your daily diet. One banana has 16% of the fiber, 15% of the vitamin C, and 11% of the potassium we need every day for good health. Bananas are unique because it helps in both IBS constipation and diarrhea. A few (no more than 2) large bananas a day provide the fiber to promote bowel movement. Eating more bananas a day can help stop diarrhea. Bananas have other benefits as well.

  • For anemic patients, bananas are high in iron, which helps in the production of hemoglobin - the foundation of blood. This is especially important to women when they have their menses.

  • For high blood pressure and stroke sufferers, bananas are high in potassium but low in salt. Research, has shown that potassium reduces blood pressure. In one research, keeping bananas as a regular diet can reduce the risk of death by stroke by as much as 40%.

  • For heart burn patients, bananas have antacid properties. Gulping down a couple of bananas provide relief in heart burn patients.

  • For ulcer sufferers, bananas coat the lining of the intestines, thus providing relief for over-active ulcers. A banana's antacid properties will reduce acidity in the stomach as well.

  • For mosquito bites and warts. Forget your creams, just use the banana skin and rub some on the mosquito bite. It not only provides irritation relief, but reduces inflammation as well. Keep the inside of the banana skin on the wart by using plaster and see the wart go away.
Tips: Do not take bananas late at night. When you take bananas, also take lots of water after that if you want to prevent constipation. Apples are also unique because they are both beneficial in the treatment of constipation and diarrhea. Uncooked apples are good for constipation. On the other hand, baked apples are good for diarrhea as the cooking process softens the cellulose and provides bulk to stools. For the best IBS treatment, apples should be peeled. The sugars in apples are harder for the body to digest. And what the body can't break down, it pushes out. So apples are a natural laxative. Personally, I find combining bananas and apples into a drink is even more effective as a constipation relief, so here is a recipe for one IBS constipation relief drink. Banana, Apple Lassi (Yogurt drink) Combine two fruits with natural laxatives and digestion booster properties, and you get one of the best IBS constipation treatments. Yoghurt builds 'good' bacteria in the gut. (Caution: if you are lactose intolerant, do not take yoghurt made from milk - then use soya yoghurt)

IBS Treatment - What Have Bananas And Apples Got To Do With IBS?

3. Peal an apple and cut into pieces and put in a juicer. Use the apple juice.

4. Add about 1 cup of cold water in a blender. Pour in the yoghurt. Pour in the apple juice and add in the bananas

Why Do People Want to Be Tan?

Over the past 2 decades, indoor tanning beds have become a huge phenomenon in the United States. Many people feel very strongly about the positive effects of tanning. Why is it that Americans want to be tanned?

In some other places, it is preferred to be pale. This is because fair skin is associated with youthfulness. As a matter of fact, in some Asian countries women go to great lengths to lighten their skin as much as possible. Over time, your skin gets darker because you are exposed to more sunlight, but when you are young your skin is fairer.

Apples

This is the opposite in the United States. Indoor tanning is very popular even though there are known risks. SO why it that tanned skin is is so important to Americans?

Why Do People Want to Be Tan?

There are many people who happen to find a lot of benefits to using home tanning beds. There are those who strive to be dark, sun-kissed, or tinted all the time - not just in the summertime when it is more natural to look that way.

There are some interesting ideas as to why being tan is considered attractive. Tanning can even out your skin and hide blemishes. This makes your skin appear healthier. Additionally, many people feel like tanned skin makes them appear thinner than when they have pale skin.

A lot of people who tan, both indoors and out, report significant improvements in their complexion. This is because some acne and breakouts are caused by oily skin, and the UV rays dry the skin. Additionally, some people with psoriasis and eczema see improvements after tanning.

I also believe that tanning causes a subconscious effect on some people. Physical attraction is a biological response to people. The innate purpose of physical attraction is to mate and reproduce. People are naturally attracted to people that appear to be healthy because they have a better chance to reproduce. Tanning makes you look like you are active and outdoors, which is a sign of good health. Obviously there are other reasons why people are attracted to others besides just physical looks though.

It takes a lot less time to tan in a tanning bed than it does in the sun. So it can be much more convenient to tan indoors than outdoors. Additionally, if you rely on lying out in the sun you are at the mercy of the sun's schedule and the weather. It is even more convenient to tan indoors if you have a home tanning bed.

As you can see, there many benefits to tanning and many benefits to indoor tanning. However, there are of course known risks. It is important to compare the risks and benefits to see what is best for you.

A List of Different Varieties of Apples

An apple a day is said to keep the doctor away, but the many kinds of apples number in the dozens, and one may need a doctor for trying to commit them all to memory. This list of different varieties of apples narrows the choices down to some of the most popular ones, as well as offering some recommendations for serving them.

CORTLAND

Apples

Taking its name from Cortland County, New York, this is a mid-season apple variety that comes out in mid-September. It has easy-to-peel bright red skin with yellow streaks and gray-green spots, and sweet-smelling white flesh that does not discolor even when cut open. An all-purpose apple, it is recommended for use in baking apple pies and as applesauce.

A List of Different Varieties of Apples

EMPIRE

An early-October mid-season apple, the Empire is a cross between the McIntosh and Red Delicious apple varieties. Round and medium-sized with spotted skin and creamy-white flesh , this all-purpose apple is especially great for salads and applesauce.

GOLDEN DELICIOUS

True to its name, the Golden Delicious has yellow skin and sweet, juicy, semi-firm flesh. Very fragile, it has a tendency to shrivel and bruise, and so must be handled carefully. In season from autumn to winter, it is used in pies, salads, applesauce and apple butter.

GRANNY SMITH

Named after Maria Ann Serwood Smith (1799-1870), who first cultivated it in 1868. The Granny Smith apple has light-green skin and has a texture harder than other apples of its hue. It is a favorite for use in salads and pies.

McINTOSH

Not named after the computer (most probably the other way around), this apple variety takes its name from John McIntosh, who discovered it in his farm in 1811. In season from early to mid-September, its skin is dark-red with green streaks and has a crisp, juicy, delicious flesh. It is favored for pies, applesauce and apple cider.

RED DELICIOUS

A late-season apple harvested in mid-October, the Red Delicious was at some point considered by some as The Great American Apple. Commonly eaten out of hand, the reasons for its name are perhaps obvious.

SPARTAN

The product of scientific breeding, the Spartan is a cross between the McIntosh and as yet unspecified apple variety. With dark-red, white-spotted skin, and ranging in size from medium to large, ithis all-purpose apple is sweeter and more crisp than its parent the McIntosh.

Apart from the ones just cited, the list of different variaties of apples goes on and on. Nutritious as well as delicious, the various types of apples are as numerous as the various ways of eating them, offering a multitude of options for enjoying what is perhaps the most popular among all fruits. If one has an apple a day, one might as well try a different kind each time.

Preschool Activities - Using Alligators And Apples To Teach The Letter "A"

The Overall Experience

When approaching preschool from an educational perspective, it's important to remember that at that tender age children learn holistically, that is from the whole experience, as opposed to from the individual parts of the experience. This is why educators integrate a variety of experiences including song, crafts, and activities into a typical preschooler's day, which helps to reinforce both social lessons and educational development.

Apples

Among the most common topics for preschool educators to cover is the alphabet, since it helps to provide children with, literally, the building blocks for reading and writing. Try integrating some of these preschool activities into lesson plans about the alphabet in general or when focusing on this letter in particular.

Preschool Activities - Using Alligators And Apples To Teach The Letter "A"

The Letter A: Apples

A is often the place where educators begin their alphabet exploration, seeing as it is the first letter of the alphabet. These preschool activities and crafts focus on two of children's favorite letter A things: apples and alligators.

This craft, called Apple Shaker, requires red poster paper or paper plates and red paint, brown and green construction paper, and a small amount of noise maker such as dried beans, rice, button or small rocks. To begin, cut out a number of apple-shaped pieces from the poster paper, or paint the paper plates red. Also, cut out some small stems from the brown construction paper and green leaves from the green construction paper.

Glue or staple the stem and leaves to the top of one of the apples. Next, glue or staple two apples together, leaving a small hole for the insertion of the noise makers. After the noise makers have been slipped in, glue or staple the rest of the shaker. For added fun, have children compose a short song about how much like apples.

Not all preschool activities should involve cutting, pasting or stapling, such as this version of Bobbing for Apples. This activity requires a large bucket and a number of small apples. Fill the bucket up with water and place the apples in the bucket. If the children are having difficult grasping the apples, try cutting the apples into smaller slices.

One at a time, children are to try and retrieve an apple from the bucket without using their hands. This activity is popular around Halloween, and provides an excellent opportunity to begin educating the children about a healthy diet and lifestyle.

The Letter A: Alligators

Finally, here's a game that children really enjoy called "Feed the Alligator". To begin, draw a large alligator head on a piece of green poster board. Make sure the alligator has a mouth that's approximately double the size of a beanbag. Cut out the mouth, and add paper teeth if desired.

Tape the alligator head to a chair or small table. Now it's time to feed the alligator by standing a few feet away and trying to throw a beanbag through its mouth. If the preschool activity is too easy, increase the difficult level by having children stand further away from the alligator.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Bacterial Vaginosis

In your quest to find a satisfactory treatment for BV, you may have come across links to information about apple cider vinegar and bacterial vaginosis and you may be wondering what the connection is between two words which you felt it was unlikely to hear in the same sentence.

Bacterial vaginosis is caused by an imbalance in the naturally occurring bacteria within the vagina. Normally, the pH level of a healthy vagina is slightly acidic. This natural state encourages healthy bacteria (Lactobacillus) and discourages harmful bacteria (Gardnerella). It is this harmful bacteria which causes the horrible symptoms of bacterial vaginosis which include a foul, fishy smelling vaginal discharge which is normally white or gray and very watery together with an often unbearable itching and burning sensation in and around the vagina.

The connection between apple cider vinegar and bacterial vaginosis can be found when you consider what might be done to help to cure BV. To get the vagina back to a healthy state, it is necessary to reduce the alkaline level and increase the acidity. One way to do this is to naturally introduce a substance which is gentle enough to do this without causing further irritation. Apple cider vinegar is acidic in nature but will not cause problems around the vagina if it is well diluted.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Bacterial Vaginosis

If you add two or three cups of cider vinegar to a shallow bath and sit in it for around twenty minutes, this will be long enough for the acidity to help to rebalance the pH levels and therefore start to give some relief from the irritation.

Used in isolation, although apple cider vinegar may help to ease the symptoms, it will not cure the root cause of bacterial vaginosis. However, there is no doubt that it can form part of some very powerful home remedies which are guaranteed to cure BV.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Bacterial Vaginosis

Prompt action is always a good idea if you have BV as although not dangerous in the early stages, if left untreated bacterial vaginosis can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease and even infertility.

If you would like to read further comprehensive information about apple cider vinegar and bacterial vaginosis and see guaranteed strategies which will show you how to cure BV naturally and for good, please visit my website, Home Remedies For Bacterial Vaginosis.

Are Apples Equivalent to Caffeine? Nope, They're Better!

I came into work today needing a "pick-me-up". I'll admit it, I was feeling a little tired. Decaf Chamomile Mint tea with honey just didn't cut it this morning, except to soothe my throat. I'm not a morning person either, so even if I wake up feeling great and well rested, it's guaranteed that I'll hit snooze at least once. On mornings where I feel exhausted still I have been known to hit the snooze button for over an hour. Yikes. I feel bad for my college roommates!

However, I have a sweet job with sweet perks... literally! I can come into work and have a delicious, crisp, organic apple. And a Pink Lady Apple at that. (I'm such a sucker for packaging and Pink Lady Apples are packaged well with their beautiful blush pink streaks with yellow.) And I'll be honest, I'm not really an apple person. I consider myself more of a citrus and banana kind of gal.

Apples

You know what they say, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away..." Maybe the old saying should go "An apple a day is better than a cup of coffee today!" It's true! Although apples do not have caffeine, they do have the glucose that fuels your brain and gives you energy. Legitimate natural energy! Talk about a pick-me-up!

Are Apples Equivalent to Caffeine? Nope, They're Better!

Glucose:Brain::Gasoline:Car

(Glucose is to brain what gasoline is to car.)

This analogy brings back painful memories of the SATs! I wish I ate more apples then! Had I known of the goodness of apples sooner I would've saved tens of, gulp, maybe hundreds of dollars from buying so much darn coffee!

Are Apples Equivalent to Caffeine? Nope, They're Better!

If you want to cut back on caffeine, if you're feeling too jittery, or if you just don't like the taste of coffee bring on the fruit (and keep off the pounds!). Don't like apples? Throw a banana into your cereal, oatmeal, or just grab it and go!

Drinking Apple Cider Vinegar To Get Thin: Does Apple Cider Vinegar Help You Lose Weight?

Does apple cider vinegar help you lose weight? Here's the truth about drinking apple cider vinegar to get thin.

This home-remedy has been used as a way to drop pounds for years. Some people swear by it. But does it work?

Apple

My own experience is that it does.

Drinking Apple Cider Vinegar To Get Thin: Does Apple Cider Vinegar Help You Lose Weight?

I have a lot of weight to lose, and I started working on the first of September. In a month, I dropped 18 pounds with an attitude adjustment and a get thin program.

Then on October 2, I got bronchitis. I was very ill for a month. In the second week of coughing my head off, I was looking for natural remedies for cough and I read one that suggested combining apple cider vinegar and raw honey in warm water.

I figured it couldn't hurt me and it just might help, so I started drinking it. It did help my coughing, so I kept drinking it at least once a day.

Before my cough was completely gone, though, one of my coughing fits pulled a muscle in my rib cage area. I could barely move for two more weeks.

During that time, I was feeling kind of down, so I turned to comfort food. I set aside my intention to get thin and ate what I wanted. I had lots of refined carbs, including pizza and biscuits. I drank wine. And of course, I wasn't exercising because I couldn't move without severe pain.

I kept drinking the vinegar.

I had weighed myself at the end of my cough, before the muscle pull, and I'd not lost or gained any weight. When I finally started moving again, I weighed myself again. I'd dropped eight pounds.

That's eight pounds down doing no exercise and not eating healthy. The only thing I was doing was having about 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar a day.

Many others have had similar experiences.

So why drinking apple cider vinegar help you get skinny? Researchers have concluded that the combination of nutrients and enzymes it are responsible for increasing your metabolism. Some studies have shown it also suppresses the appetite. Recent studies have focused on the fact that the vinegar prevents the blood sugar levels in your body from rising, which reduces the amount of insulin your body needs to process your food. These leads to fat loss. And experiential evidence shows that it prevents water retention.

Now, my eight pound loss aside, organized studies and most people who use this weight loss remedy, find that it's not a quick fix. If you don't combine it with a get thin program of healthy eating and fat burning exercise, it won't melt away pounds.

So does apple cider vinegar help you lose weight? Yes. Drinking apple cider can help your efforts to get thin. But it's not a magic potion. You still need a good fat burning program.

Drinking Apple Cider Vinegar To Get Thin: Does Apple Cider Vinegar Help You Lose Weight?

Knowledge is one thing; action is another. Discover the attitude adjustment you must make if you want to get rid of fat. Then get find the best diet and exercise program to get thin and have the body you want.

1880's Antique Apple Cider Press Restoration

When the Apple Cider Press arrived it was a mess, it had been neglected for many years it was left outside for a number of years and was deteriorating. The metal parts were rusting away and certain parts were of no use to its functionality anymore. At some point the front legs were replaced with fence posts fairly recently because they were pressure treated 4X4's.

The press was completely torn down; all metal parts photographed and numbered then sent out for sandblasting and powder coated.

Apple

We wanted to rebuild the Apple Cider Press as close to original as possible. This turned out to be a challenge indeed; we could not find a picture of what it was supposed to look like when it was originally made. We had the date and the manufacture but sadly could not find anything that was even close to our Apple Cider Press. We did however have the wooden parts that it came in with imagining that whoever replaced the broken or worn out parts hopefully made them as close as possible. We also had the owner who remembered it from his childhood days which he recalled his Grandfather using it to make Apple Cider.

1880's Antique Apple Cider Press Restoration

So we began rebuilding it from scratch out of solid quarter sawn White Oak ranging in thickness from 2/4 - 8/4. I built the two front legs out of 6/4 with the cross member out of 8/4 through Mortised and Tenoned together. The platform in which the actual press would sit was made out of 6/4 and blind Mortised and Tenoned into the front cross member. The rear legs are also 6/4 full dado on to the platform to which the press sits.

The apple shoot was constructed out of 8/4 and the inner slats were hand routed out of the thickness. This was by far the hardest part of the entire build. 6/4 boards were ripped down and made into a skirt so the apples would be trapped. It's hard to see in the photo's but the front is also scooped out.

Next I had to build a bucket worthy of our new press not to hard I ripped some stock down to 1 1/4 set my table saw's blade to an angle and ran them all through. Next I set up the drill press centered a hole and drilled them all. We had a custom piece of copper made for the straps 1/4 X 1 Drilled a hole centering all the slats and put our bucket together.

We finally got our newly powder coated parts back and assembled our press to all of its glory as seen in these photo's (Click Link). A little gold leaf to make the writing on the press stand out and it's done.

Apple Cider Vinegar vs Acid Reflux

Acid reflux has been around forever, and one home remedy has been around nearly as long is apple cider vinegar.

All forms of vinegar have been touted as having medicinal uses for thousands of years. The ancient Greek physician Hippocrates is said to have prescribed it for everything from ear infections to rashes, and the Chinese have long used it to prevent the spread of viruses. Its use as an astringent, where it is more effective than icepacks, is well known.

Apple

Apple cider vinegar specifically has been cited as a remedy for acid reflux, or gastroesophegeal reflux disease (GERT). D.C. Jarvis' bestselling book "Folk Medicine" promoted its use in 1958, and the remedy has been popular ever since.

Apple Cider Vinegar vs Acid Reflux

But does it work?

Claims of apple cider vinegar's effectiveness are anecdotal at best. It's rarely been tested methodically, the way a drug would be, simply because that kind of research is usually funded by pharmaceutical companies and apple cider vinegar isn't a pharmaceutical product so of no interest to them. The companies that could benefit from it being proven effective don't have the money to fund the kind of research required.

Furthermore, most acid reflux remedies vary widely in their efficacy. They work for some people and don't work for others. Apple cider vinegar may well help some sufferers, but there is no evidence to suggest it would help every person, every time.

It's important to note that acid reflux isn't a "condition" in itself. It's the SYMPTOM of a condition. The real problem is that the muscle that separates the stomach from the esophagus is weak or compromised, thus allowing stomach acid to splash up into the esophagus. Overeating can cause it (when the stomach becomes overfull; acid is forced upward), and so can lying down after a large meal. Those instances are situational. When you don't do the things that cause it, you don't get heartburn.

If you suffer from acid reflux regularly, even without overeating, it may be a chronic condition that requires treatment. That's where remedies like apple cider vinegar come into play. The Internet is teeming with anecdotes about its usefulness, with almost as many articles explaining that it's nothing more than folklore. But try telling that to the people for whom it has worked!

Why the variance in opinion?

Clearly some cases of acid reflux being cured by apple cider vinegar are just psychosomatic: The sufferer believed it would work, and so it did. In other cases, perhaps the heartburn would have gone away on its own whether the patient drank apple cider vinegar or not.

And there is the possibility that it actually does work for some people. As mentioned, different remedies work for different people when it comes to GERD. It's hard to cite any one cure as THE best option in every case. The point is, don't pin all your hopes on a folk remedy whose usefulness is anecdotal and unproven.

However, if you are interested to see if it can help your GERD, you could try taking up to 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in 8 oz of water, adding a little honey to taste. Giving it a try won't hurt (once you get past the bitter taste), and if it doesn't work, you can move on to something else.

Apple Cider Vinegar For Acne - The Best Kept Skin Care Secret

Apple Cider Vinegar can do wonders for your skin. In fact, it is the best treatment for acne that I have ever found; hands down. And the best part... it's 100% all natural!

There are two ways to incorporate apple cider vinegar into your skin care regimen. To help clear acne, apple cider vinegar can be taken orally or applied topically. For best results, I recommend trying both!

Apple

Drinking Apple Cider Vinegar to Improve your Skin

Apple Cider Vinegar For Acne - The Best Kept Skin Care Secret

When ingested, apple cider vinegar promotes liver health. Proper liver function is absolutely essential for clear and beautiful skin. Why? The livers job within the body is to remove toxins from our system. An overload of toxins, caused by a poorly functioning liver is a very common cause of acne.

Furthermore, apple cider vinegar helps regulate digestion which is another key for clear and beautiful skin. For optimum benefit, take approximately 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar 3 times a day.

Applying Apple Cider Vinegar Topically to Improve Acne

I have personally seen the best results when applying apple cider vinegar topically. Not only did my acne drastically improve, but my facial redness disappeared as well. In addition, my skin became much less oily and shiny as it was able to perfectly control my skins pH levels.

That's one of the great benefits of apple cider vinegar. Instead of just healing acne alone, it improves all aspects of your complexion. After all, what's the good in clearing up your acne if in doing so you turn your skin so red and oily that your entire face looks like a giant zit!

What's the best way to apply ACV (apple cider vinegar) for the best results?

When first starting out, dilute the vinegar with water to an approximate 10% solution. Apply the concoction with a cotton pad 1-3 times daily. Treat the ACV as a toner and leave it on your skin throughout the day.

Once your skin gets used to the 10% solution, if needed, you can gradually increase the amount of ACV until you are using it in its original form.

Negatives of Using ACV for Skin Care

As with anything else, there are some negatives associated with using apple cider vinegar as a natural organic skin care solution. First of all, it tastes really bad... plain and simple! The best way to deal with this negative aspect of ingesting ACV is to either drink it in shots or combine it with large amounts of water to minimize the bad taste.

I personally like to take it in shots and then chase it down with honey. I've also tried adding a small amount of ACV to all my bottles of water that I drink throughout the day.

When applied topically, the smell of the apple cider vinegar on your skin takes some time to dissipate. For the first few hours it will be somewhat noticeable to those around you. It's not a big deal if you don't mind smelling like a salad!

Here's a little trick: Apply the ACV immediately when you wake up so that by the time you are ready to go out the smell will be gone. This always seemed to work for me.

Finally, for the first few weeks of applying ACV on the skin, the fumes will burn your eyes. It's an effect very similar to the one experienced from cutting fresh onions. Once you get used to the ACV, this will no longer be a problem.

Despite some of the negatives, the benefits of apple cider vinegar make this a natural organic skin care nutrient that must be tried. I doubt you will be disappointed!

Keep Apple Slices From Turning Brown Naturally

You may be surprised at the number of ways there are to keep apple slices from turning brown, all are quite simple, but there is only one way to keep apples from browning that requires no effort at all! First we need to know what causes apples to brown and then how we can keep apples from turning:

Pick an apple off the tree and it'll last a few weeks before it starts to rot and turn soft, but fresh cut apples turn brown when iron-containing chemicals inside apple cells react with oxygen in the air. We see this every day when iron objects rust, or when scabs on cuts turn brown. The chemical reaction is called oxidation, and the enzyme that regulates oxidation in apples is called "polyphenol oxidase" (PPO), also known as "tyrosinase". There are millions of tiny cells inside each apple. One way apple cells get exposed to oxygen is by cutting the apple open. This damages the wall that protects each cell and exposes its contents to the oxygen in the air. Bruised apples also show signs of oxidation. When an apple gets damaged, if you drop one for example, many of the cell walls inside the apple get broken, which enables the contents of those cells to flow freely inside the apple, where they react with air that is also inside the apple (apples are 20% air, that's why they float!).

Apple

Now that we know what causes browning, how can we stop it? One common way is to put lemon on sliced apples, but this changes the taste substantially. The mixture of lemon juice and water is called acidulated water, lime can also be used. This also works for peaches, pears, and avocados.

Keep Apple Slices From Turning Brown Naturally

One can also use orange juice, pineapple juice or apple juice to prevent browning. Other suggestions are Sprite or similar lemon-lime sodas, ginger ale, salted water, cinnamon, water and crushed vitamin C tablets, even dry white wine or flat Champagne! There is also a commercial product called Fruit Fresh, but like everything mentioned so far is has a distinct effect on the taste and the flavor of the sliced fruit.

Another alternative is to invest in a shrink wrap machine. Whilst effective this can be a costly investment and it constantly requires purchasing more shrink wrap.

Keep Apple Slices From Turning Brown Naturally

There is one method to keep apple slices from turning brown that requires no effort at all, it's called eggstrafresh™, and it's a revolutionary breakthrough in food preservation that is scientifically proven to dramatically reduce oxidation and retain moisture. Oxidation and moisture loss are the 2 leading factors that foster mold, bacteria, nasty odors and rapid food spoilage. eggstrafresh™ is a wonderful device that allows you to eat healthy and save money too! Apple - Useful In Combating Diarrhea

Apple information and how it is used as a herb in alternative herbal treatments to treat ailments and problems such as stomach cramps, cancer and diabetes.

Although we believe in the therapeutic and healing properties of herbs, care must be taken in the use thereof, as they are powerful compounds.

Apple

Botanical Classification: Family Rosaceae

Apple - Useful In Combating Diarrhea

Genus and specie: Malus sylvestris or Pyrus malus.

Description of the herb apple:

This commonplace tree can grow up to 40 feet high and more than 300 varieties are found.

Parts used:

The fruits and leaves are used.

Properties:

The fruit varies and taste and texture range from crisp to mealy and can be sweet or sour, depending on the variety. The fruits have great anti-diarrhea and laxative properties, and although it sounds like a contradiction, both of these conditions can be helped with apples.

Therapeutic uses:

Internal use:

The pectin in apples is transformed into a soothing coating for the intestines by intestinal bacteria, which eases stomach cramps.

Pectin adds bulk to stools and is useful in combating diarrhea.

A study that appeared in the "Journal of the National Cancer Institute" hints that pectin may stop cancer spreading through the body, and that pectin binds certain carcinogenic compounds in the colon, speeding their elimination from the body.

A study published in the "Annals of Internal Medicine" showed that apple pectin helps to reduce blood sugar levels in diabetics.

Apple pectin reportedly helps retain cholesterol in the stomach, binding cholesterol to itself and carrying it through the digestive tract to be eliminated and is also reported to help the body rid itself of

. lead

. mercury

. and other heavy metals prevalent in modern water, food, and air.

External use:

Apple leaves contain phloretin, which is a natural antibiotic.

Crushed clean apple leaves may be applied to minor wounds and scratches as a temporary treatment until the wounds can be cleaned and bandaged.

Aromatherapy and essential oil use:

None noted.

Safety precautions and warnings:

An apple seed contains a high level of cyanide - so much so that ingesting massive amounts of apple seeds can be fatal, and it is not advisable to eat great amounts of apple seeds.

People with weak stomachs, prone to diarrhea or constipation must eat apples in moderation, as it can precipitate either of the conditions in susceptible individuals.

Large amounts of apple pectin could delay the absorption of most drugs if taken at the same time.

Apple Cider Vinegar GERD - Does it Really Work?

Is there really such thing as apple cider vinegar GERD? Well sort of! Many people are suggesting that this type of vinegar is the newest natural remedy for gastro esophageal reflux disease (acid reflux). But does it really work?

As a natural health expert, my research team and I have researched hundreds of cures and found many that are quacks. On the flip side, my research team has also found cures that out perform medications and antacids.

Apple

By the end of this article you will learn why you may wish to wean yourself off of antacids and try this new remedy.

Apple Cider Vinegar GERD - Does it Really Work?

Why Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)?

Though it tastes horrendous, you may have heard a lot of positive things about apple cider vinegar. Many of you know at least one elderly person who drinks a swig everyday and claims that they haven't been sick in 20 years. Some of you may even take a swig whenever you feel a cold coming on. The truth is that this type of vinegar is loaded with vitamins, minerals and acid!

But does it really work for GERD (also known as acid reflux)?

Yes! And let me explain why! Did you know that most acid reflux is actually caused by too little acid in your stomach? This makes sense when you think about how it works. If your stomach isn't producing enough acid to digest your food, then more food (and gas) will stay in your stomach for longer periods of time...without getting properly digested.

So, the ACV is so acidic, it immediately starts digesting food in your stomach and eases your heartburn very quickly.

Apple Cider Vinegar GERD Remedy

How do you use this type of remedy?

You do not need very much apple cider vinegar for this remedy to work! One or two swigs will do the trick. That would equate to about 1 to 2 teaspoons.

After you drink the vinegar you will notice a slight burning sensation for maybe 5 seconds, but then it should go away and you'll notice almost immediate relief. And the great thing is that this remedy will work for days at a time. (Antacids may only work for a few hours.)

We would also recommend you buy the best quality of vinegar possible. The Bragg brand has been a very popular choice by our customers. The cheaper brands have not been as successful.

Unfortunately, you will notice the terrible taste the first time you try this remedy. Fortunately, the taste won't bother you after awhile. However, you can dilute the vinegar down by adding it to a glass of water and adding honey. This will make the mixture more tolerable and easier to enjoy.

Apple Cider Vinegar - How to Douche Yeast Infection Symptoms Away

Using apple cider vinegar to douche yeast infection symptoms -- particularly vaginal yeast infection -- away, is being used successfully by more and more women. But why are they turning to an apple cider vinegar home remedy rather than mainstream medication? The answer may lie in the fact that these drug-based topical medications address the symptoms of the yeast infection and not the root cause. And the Candida fungus which causes yeast infection can become resistant to the drugs. The outcome is recurring yeast infections for many.

An apple cider vinegar douche is easy to prepare. Just add 2 tablespoons of the vinegar to 2 quarts ( 2 litres) of warm water, and stir thoroughly. Gently douche the whole vaginal area using cotton dipped in the water / vinegar mix. Most experts recommend you do this twice a day until the yeast infection symptoms are gone.

Many women recommend that you add a peeled clove of fresh garlic to the water as well. The garlic itself has very good antifungal properties, ideal for fighting the Candida albicans fungus which causes yeast infections. But it also has anti-inflammatory properties, so can take any 'sting' out of the apple cider vinegar that might be present.

Alternatively, add 2 cups of apple cider vinegar to a bath of warm water. The level of water should be enough to cover your hips so that the vagina is also completely covered. Any more than this and the vinegar / water mix will be too weak. Sit upright in the bath for at least 20 minutes (30 minutes max) and lap the water against your vagina whilst holding the lips apart. Again, do this twice daily until the symptoms of your yeast infection disappear.

Now while apple cider vinegar can do a good job for many folks, it will still be very difficult to guarantee an actual cure. A complete cure requires that not just the symptoms, but the root cause and any other factors that can help lead to yeast infections are fully addressed; things like your diet, your lifestyle, etc. Basically, a total natural program, not just a single home remedy.

Natural GERD Cure - An Apple?

Is an apple really a natural GERD cure? Many people are finding out that antacids will only work for a few years before you need to start a different treatment. And some of those acid reflux sufferers are trying an apple.

I was skeptical the first time I heard about this Gastro esophageal reflux disease remedy from my dad almost 20 years ago. My dad, Bob, had struggled with GERD for most of his life until he found the simplest and most effective cure... an apple.

Apple

In this article, you will learn about my dad's Natural GERD Cure and how you can use simple remedies to treat your acid reflux.

Natural GERD Cure - An Apple?

How an Apple Can Cure your Acid Reflux

Almost 30 years ago my dad almost lost his life. Through complications in a stomach surgery, my dad would struggle with the most extreme bouts with GERD imaginable. Vomiting refluxed acid would be a daily occurrence and he thought there was no hope.

Then the miracle happened! My dad woke up one morning noticing that he slept the whole night with not one GERD attack. What did he do differently?

After back tracking his previous night's steps, he discovered that a red apple was the simple remedy that helped him cure his reflux and sleep all night. Nothing else worked like raising his bed posts, extra pillows, antacids, you name it...

A Natural GERD Cure

A red apple is a simple Natural GERD cure you can try tonight! However, because research has expanded so much in acid reflux natural health, there are numerous other ways to treat your disease naturally. Here are some quick tips to start your home treatment.

1. Drinking a glass of water after every meal and snack will keep a tight seal between the stomach and lower esophageal sphincter (LES). This tight seal will keep the stomach acid in your stomach and not your esophagus.

2. Taking a swig of aloe vera is another common remedy that many of our customers use because it will help repair a damaged or weakened lower esophageal sphincter and esophagus. The lower esophageal sphincter is responsible for keeping the stomach acid in the stomach.

3. Swallowing a teaspoon of honey has also been shown to be beneficial for helping repair the sphincter and esophagus.

4. Eating the right foods is also important. One tip with your diet is to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables which will keep enzymes in the stomach. The enzymes will help the food digest in the stomach and lessen the chance of reflux.

Apple Computer - Steve Jobs' Success Story

"We started out to get a computer in the hands of everyday people, and we succeeded beyond our wildest dreams."

- Steve Jobs, Co-Founder of Apple Computer Inc., 1976.

Apple

Steve Jobs was adopted to a family in Mountain View, California. While still in high school, Jobs interest in electronics prompted him to call William Hewlett of Hewlett-Packard to ask for some parts for a school project. Hewlett provided the parts and then made an offer to Jobs to intern at Hewlett-Packard for a summer. There, Jobs met Steve Wozniak, a talented and knowledgeable engineer five years older than the high school student. Their friendship would eventually be the foundation on which Apple was built.

Apple Computer - Steve Jobs' Success Story

Jobs dropped out of Reed College after one semester and went to work for Atari designing games. He carefully saved the money he earned while working at Atari so that he could take a trip to India and sate his bourgeoning interest in the spiritualism of the East.

After returning home from India, Jobs and Wozniak renewed their friendship. Jobs was shown a small computer that Wozniak had been working on as a hobby, but Jobs saw its potential immediately and persuaded Wozniak to go into business with him. In 1975, at the age of 20, Jobs went to work in his parents' garage with Wozniak working on the Apple I prototype.

The Apple I sold modestly, but well enough to be able to go to work on the Apple II. In 1977, the new model was put on sale. With a keyboard, colour monitors and user-friendly software, Apple became a success. The company made million in their first year and had surpassed 0 million in their third.

However, in addition to the Apple III and its successor the LISA not selling as well as had been hoped and a marked increase in competition in the sale of PCs, 1980 saw Apple lose almost half of its sales to IBM. Things got worse for Jobs in 1983 when a fight with the directors got him kicked off the board by the CEO, John Sculley, whom Jobs himself had hired.

In 1984, as a response to the sharp decline in sales, Jobs released the Apple Macintosh which introduced the world to the point-and-click simplicity of the mouse. The marketing for the Mac was handled poorly and with a price tag of ,500, it was not finding its way into the homes for which it had been designed. Jobs tried to repackage the Mac as a business computer, but without a hard-drive or networking capabilities, not to mention only a small capacity for memory, corporations were not interested. In 1985, without any power in his own company, Jobs sold his stock in Apple and resigned.

Later in 1985, Jobs began NeXT Computer Co. with the money he'd made from the sale of his stock in Apple. He planned to build a computer to change the way research was done. The NeXT computer, though complete with processing speeds previously unseen, unmatched graphics, and an optical disk drive, at ,950 each, sold poorly.

Persistent after the failures of the NeXT venture, Jobs began toying with software and started to focus his attention on a company he'd bought from George Lucas in 1986, Pixar Animation Studios. Jobs signed a three-picture deal with Disney, and began working on the first computer-animated feature. Released in the fall of 1995, it had taken "Toy Story" four years to be made. But the work had been well worth it, the film was an incredible success. Pixar went public in 1996, and in one day of trading, Jobs 80% share had become worth billion.

Apple was struggling, having failed to design a new Macintosh operating system, and the company only held 5% of the PC market. Days after Pixar went public, Apple bought NeXT for 0 million and renamed Jobs to the board of directors to advise Gilbert F. Amelio, the chairman and CEO. However, in March of 1997, Apple recorded a quarterly loss of 8 million, and Amelio resigned a few months later. Jobs was left in charge as interim CEO and it was up to him to keep the same company he had started and which had ousted him alive. So he made a deal with Microsoft. With an investment 0 million for a small stake in Apple, Apple and Microsoft would "cooperate on several sales and technology fronts", and Apple would be assured their continuation in the PC market.

Jobs also went to work improving the quality of the Apple computers. The introduction of the G3 Power PC microprocessor made the Apple faster than those computers operating on Pentium processors. Apple also turned its energies toward producing an inexpensive desktop, the iMac, that was another hit for the company. With Jobs once again in control, Apple was able to quickly turn itself around, and by the end of 1998, was bringing in .9 billion in sales. Jobs had returned to his first love, a little older and a little wiser. He had made Apple healthy again and returned it to a place where it was contributing new and innovative technologies to the computer world.

Fiber Content in Fruits - Top 5 High Fiber Fruits

Fibers are important nutrients for us because of the following several reasons:

- Fiber controls overeating
- It neutralizes blood-sugar level
- It control fat absorption in the body
- It reduces cholesterol
- It reduces chances of cancer

Apple

Fruits are one of the rich sources of fiber. High fiber fruits are essential for people who want to burn fat or lose weight. Here we'll be discussing top five fruits having maximum fiber content. Apple, fig, blackberries, pear and banana are top five fruits rich in fiber.

Fiber Content in Fruits - Top 5 High Fiber Fruits

Apple: Apple is a rich source fiber. An apple with skin contains 3 to 5 grams of fiber depending upon the size. An average size apple contains 4grams of fiber.

Figs: One fresh fig contains 2 to 4 grams of fiber.

Blackberries: half cup of raw blackberries contains 4 to 5 grams of fiber.

Pear: Pear is a high fiber fruit. A large pear with skin contains 5 to 6 grams of fiber.

Banana: One banana contains 2 to 4 grams of fiber

There are also several other fruits, which are rich in fiber, viz. Guava, orange, coconut, grapefruit, apricot etc.

The skins of fruits are generally rich sources of fiber. So don't peel fruits like apples & pears. And instead of fruit juice opt for raw fruit. Let's explain this citing an example. An apple contains 3 to 5 grams of fiber depending on its size. To make one glass (250 ml size) of apple juice say three apples are needed. So in making one glass of juice we are wasting 12gm of fiber (assuming one contains 4gm of fiber). So high fiber fruits like apple & pears, having edible skins, should be taken as raw not as juice. Also while making juice of fruit, like orange we throw the pulp, which is a rich source of fiber.

Intake of lots of high fiber fruits makes one's body immune to several diseases along with burning fats.

Apple Symbolism and Legends

Apple blossoms are ideal symbols of love, youth, beauty and happiness. The apple blossom is the state flower for Arkansas, once a top apple-producing state in the United States. Apple blossoms are pink and white with leaves of medium green.

The blossoms of apples are pink, a modified red. In terms of color symbolism, the color red encourages action, motion, courage and passion. Pink is a more sophisticated color that is often more appealing to adults than pure red. Pink is also gentler and more appropriate for healing. Pink can be used to relieve depression. As the color of warmth and love, pink offers comfort while encouraging motion and an outward orientation.

Apple

The symbology of apple blossoms extends to floral paintings. All floral paintings are primarily a depiction of the wood element. The wood element is a stimulus for new projects and adventures. The energy of blossoms bursting forth in spring and summer encourages us to take on new challenges and renews our strength.

Apple Symbolism and Legends

The secondary energy of apple blossoms is the fire energy associated with the pink color. Fire connotes warmth, passion and relationships. Fire creates enthusiasm. Images with a strong fire element are appropriate for supporting romance and idealistic endeavors.

The apple has a venerable history. There are over 1,000 varieties of apples cultivated in the United States, all of which are descended from the wild crab apple. The apple tree is originally a native of Europe and has adapted well to the North American continent. The apple tree is the state symbol of Washington, know for its prolific apple orchards. Apple trees flower from April to June.

The apple has long been associated with immortality, as exemplified by its role in the tempting of Adam in the Garden of Eden. The mystical Isle of Avalon, famed place of eternal rest for Celtic heroes including king Arthur, is literally "the apple land" or "apple island." In Scandinavian myths, the North-European gods and goddesses were fed an apple every evening by Iduna, the goddess of spring and youth who nurtures an apple orchard in Asgard.

As far as modern myths and legends go, Johnny Appleseed is the most prominent American legend associated with apples. Born John Chapman in 1774, he lived for about 12 years near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In his mid-twenties, Johnny began his journey westward with an eye for providing settlers with apple trees and saplings.

There was a law at the time that required settlers to plant 50 apple trees in their first year on newly acquired land. This law was aimed at preventing starvation among the settlers. Although Johnny wandered far and wide planting trees, he also owned and leased considerable areas of land for his apple orchards.

Johnny was a devout Christian who was influenced by the ideas of Emmanuel Swedenborg. Swedenborg valued love and joy above all other virtues. Compared to many of the repressive philosophies then in vogue, his approach to the spiritual life was basically a breath of fresh air for the settlers with whom Johnny shared his religious tracts and Biblical interpretations.

Johnny Appleseed spent nearly 50 years traversing the wilderness planting apple trees and tending to his own orchards. Johnny dreamed of a landscape beautified by apple blossoms and a country where no one would go hungry. Johnny is reported to have believed that apples are among "the finest things on earth."

Today the American apple industry today is worth billions of dollars. And thanks to Johnny Appleseed, nothing is more American than apple pie!
